a'nuther good'un Mary, a poem for the thirsty! keep on quenchin' !

(whilst I some dainty doggeral doth wrench, thus inspired...but bein' a very reluctant swimmer ;-)

~~~~~~~~~~~
much truth in yer observations, I'll take that invitation!
but ta keep myself afloat, I shall bring a little boat
an' in case of "under toad," climb aboard y'all, you'll be rowed!
I got hardtack an' dry socks, 'lest we float far from them docks
swim together, in a "school," that'a'way them sharks we'll fool
seas 'r rough, seas 'r vast; facing unknowns, nets 'r cast
what's our catch? will we prevail? keepin' conscious is our grail
(it's my hunch we cannot fail ...)
but...
't'ain't gonna happen without a battle
so hold that breath, an' doggie paddle! (Go Dogs Go!)
An' if we do win, I will hoist
a little flag, however moist...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

n'ere conscious nor unconscious, this here odd-ditty (oddity?) comes from a SEMI-conscious fly in the primordial soup doin' the backstroke! as in waiter waiter... what's that fly doin' in my soup???

Daisy, this is a GEM!! Landsakes, woman -- you've penned a delight. I'm gleeful, reading it over and over. You must write poetry for your next Stack offering -- you've got the knack, my dear!! Especially in your inimitable twangy style... there's NO ONE who sounds like you!! ("a little flag, however moist," indeed... ) xox

Daisy, I can sing EVERY SINGLE WORD of this song. It was one of my father's favorites. I actually included it in a poetic drama I wrote called The Marriage of Mom and Dad. Thank you so much for bringing it back into my life!! I'm smiling from ear to ear... xox

ha! thanks Mary, yer the poet but I do like my rhymes (nursery included!) an' verse so yer well-wrought work prompted a sincere (if wackadoodles) be-vers-ed reply! --As a kid my ma (also fond've cornball and Tom Lehrer) would say, "you're a poet and you don't know it!" so the attribute stands (...er floats!) keep 'em comin'!

Your mom was right! And I love how art inspires art, wackadoodle or not.😊

Bravo Mary. You are leading me into a better capacity for appreciating poetry, and without losing any of the subtlety and magic the art should properly have, in making it accessible.

I love this!

Beautifully read too.
